MegaRider for young people available for just £10 a week

People aged 5-19 can purchase a Young Person’s MegaRider for just £10 a week.

Unlimited travel for seven days with Stagecoach buses, perfect for travelling to college during the week and getting around town with friends at the weekend.

For as little as £1.43 per a day, you can travel around Grimsby, Cleethorpes, Healing, Stallingborough, Immingham, Keelby, Brocklesby, Holten le Clay, Irby and Ulceby with your MegaRider.

The Young Person’s MegaRider is available to buy on board, online or on the Stagecoach app. This is a promotional price for a limited time only, subject to the uptake on these tickets, as well as funding. Opportunities to reduce these costs further in the future are currently being discussed.

This initiative is funded through the Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP) from the Department for Transport.

Councillor Stewart Swinburn, portfolio for transport and environment, said: “Making bus fares more affordable for young people will hopefully encourage them to use the bus over being dropped off or picked up by their parents, not only would this be more convenient for parents balancing work and childcare, but it will also help to reduce congestion in these busy areas.

“Newly passed young drivers will benefit from catching the bus without the stress of driving in heavy traffic and peak traffic times as well.”

Lani Lamming, Enhanced Bus Quality Partnership Coordinator at Equans, said: “With the new ticket price, people will be saving £2.80 every week, that’s £11.20 saved a month on travel compared to the previous Young Person’s MegaRider. It’s not just beneficial for teenagers going to school or college but also families with young children who use the bus regularly.  We hope this will encourage more people to travel by bus as it’s a cheaper and eco-friendlier way of travelling compared to car.”

Roads Minister, Richard Holden, added: “People up and down the country deserve a modern, reliable, and affordable public transport system. That is why we have provided North East Lincolnshire County Council with over £5 million to boost its bus services.      

“Supporting the Council with introducing the Young Person’s MegaRider is fantastic for local families and young people, who will now be able to get to work, school and visit loved ones for less.”

Dave Skepper, Commercial Director at Stagecoach, said: “Our Young Person’s Megarider ticket already offers great value for money, making bus travel easier for young people so they don’t need to rely on the taxi of mum or dad. The extra discount from the Bus Service Improvement Plan will encourage more young people aged 19 and under to enjoy the freedom offered by the ticket for school, college, and leisure journeys.”
