Time to check your blood pressure?

This May Measure Month Lincs Inspire’s health and wellbeing team are testing residents’ blood pressure and highlighting the need for regular monitoring.

High blood pressure has no symptoms and remains the biggest single cause of death in the UK. Elevated blood pressure causes strokes, heart attacks and other cardiovascular complications.

Ian Shorley Harlow, health improvement co-ordinator, said: “Lowering your blood pressure can be as simple as making some lifestyle changes such as eating less salt and more fruit and vegetables, as well as more regular exercise.

“Untreated, high blood pressure can lead to many health complications. More young people are being diagnosed with hypertension and around 1 in 3 people in the UK are now living with high blood pressure.

“Most people with high blood pressure have no signs or symptoms, even if blood pressure readings reach dangerously high levels. Fortunately, it can be easily detected and once you know you have high blood pressure, you can work with your doctor to control it.”
