Travel further across the borough for just £2
Phone n Ride customers across North East Lincolnshire are set to benefit from a bus fare cap as part of the Department for Transport’s new fares initiative, through the Government’s Help for Households campaign.
Under the new national government initiative, the maximum that will be charged for an adult single fare journey on the demand-responsive bus service will be just £2 from 1 January 2023 to 31 March 2023.
Cllr Stewart Swinburn, North East Lincolnshire Council’s Portfolio Holder for Environment and Transport, said: “This is of course extremely welcome. From speaking to people in our communities, we know this service provides a lifeline for many across the borough. For example, a year ago this month I was delighted to present one of the service’s most avid users, Karen Oliver, with an award for travelling with Phone ‘n’ Ride a bumper 542 times. She described how she would not have been able to travel to work without the ‘wonderful’ service. That will be the case for many more of our residents.”
Lesley Jamieson, Transport Officer at the council’s delivery partner Equans said “
This is really great news, particularly for those living in our rural communities, where we know transport links are often quite limited. Allowing Phone N Ride customers to benefit from this national initiative will make their connections to our local towns more affordable and more accessible to the many people living in our villages.”
