18TH CENTURY TOWN CENTRE HOTEL IN LINCOLNSHIRE SEEKING NEW OWNERSHIP
Historical 42-bedroom hotel, pub and tavern in Brigg is for sale for £950,000
An 18th Century town centre hotel, pub and tavern in Brigg, once visited by the Prime Minister Winston Churchill during World War II, is being marketed by commercial real estate specialists Colliers at a guide price of £950,000.
The Exchange Coach House Inn was built around 1760 and still retains many of its historic features. It has successfully traded as an independent hotel, bar and restaurant during the last 38 years by owner Joseph Mullen until the business closed in 2020 to allow a complete refurbishment of the Exchange Tavern, a much-anticipated new establishment for Brigg town centre.
Mr Mullen has said: “I have spent the last four decades developing the Exchange Coach Inn into what it is today. All three buildings have been perfectly designed to meet the needs of not just local residents and their events, but also corporate businesses and visitors to the area too. Following the pandemic, I’ve decided now is a good time to retire and I look forward to seeing how the business thrives in the future.”
The property is split into three main buildings, each linked by a courtyard with access to both Bigby Street and Wrawby Street through a large archway via the original coach-house. Each building is Grade II listed and individually has historically interesting features including the gas lamp bar with stage and dance floor, wood panelled tavern with a marble floor restaurant/dining room, and a hotel with 42 en-suite letting bedrooms.
A popular venue for tourists, corporate and local trade alike, the Exchange Coach Inn in Brigg is a well-established hotel with an enviable local reputation. Brigg is a quintessential English market town renowned for its independent shops, farmers’ market and its riverbank’s beautiful wildlife and diverse landscape, attracting tourists all year round. The hotel is also located in an area with significant corporate activity with the extremely busy areas of Immingham and Grimsby located within half an hour, as well as Humberside Airport from which historically the hotel has taken trade contracts.
Robert Smithson, Associate Director in Colliers’ Hotel Agency team has said: “The Exchange Coach House Inn is a spectacular property in a superb prominent town centre location with unique, historic and traditional features. The property offers endless opportunities for a new investor wishing to develop an established business with plenty of potential for further growth. We are expecting strong interest and are looking forward to helping Joseph find a suitable buyer ahead of his retirement.”
